Each card shows the capital A and the lowercase a side by side. Tap whichever one you want. If a style only has one version, it's because Unicode only includes a capital form for it.

A With Symbols and Decorations
Want something more decorated? These versions wrap a stylish A in symbols, frames and emoji-style borders. They work well as a monogram, a profile initial or the first letter of a username.
Where to Use a Fancy A
A is the first letter of the alphabet and the start of a lot of names, which makes a fancy A one of the most copied letters on the site. Here are the places people use it most.
- Profile initials and monograms. A single 𝓐 or 𝔸 in a display name looks neat and still reads as a letter.
- Couple and friend names. Pair two initials with a heart, like 𝒜 ♡ 𝒥, for a bio or a pinned post.
- Gaming tags. Gothic 𝕬 and dark bubble 🅐 stand out in squad names and lobbies. Check your game's character limit, since decorated styles use more characters.
- Grades and rankings. Students like a bold 𝐀+ or a circled Ⓐ for study accounts and progress posts.
- Brand names and handles. Use a styled A in your display name, but keep the plain spelling in your @username so people can search for you.
A in Different Fonts: Which Style Should You Pick?
All of these stylish A letters look good on their own, but some are much easier to read than others once they sit inside a word.
- Bold and sans bold (𝐀, 𝗔): the safest choice. They look like a heavier version of normal text and show up properly on nearly every device.
- Cursive script (𝒜, 𝒶): elegant, but the capital is quite ornate. It works best at the start of a name rather than in the middle of a sentence. To write a real cursive A by hand, see our guide to cursive A.
- Gothic (𝔄, 𝔞): the capital gothic A looks a lot like a U to some readers, so use it for decoration rather than for words people need to read quickly.
- Double struck (𝔸, 𝕒): clean and outlined. Mathematicians use 𝔸 for affine space, so it also turns up in math notes.
- Bubble and squares (Ⓐ, 🅰): fun and bold, but the dark versions only come in capitals.
- Upside down (∀, ɐ): the upside-down capital A is a real math symbol meaning "for all", so it shows up correctly almost everywhere.
Fun Facts About the Letter A
The letter A has a long history. It started as a Phoenician letter called aleph, a simple drawing of an ox's head, around 3,000 years ago. The Greeks turned it into alpha, and the Romans gave us the shape we use now. If you flip a capital A upside down, you can still see the horns.
In English, A is the third most common letter in ordinary text, after E and T. It's also a whole word by itself, which is why it appears in so many sentences.
The lowercase a comes in two shapes. Most printed fonts use the two-storey a, with a little hook over the bowl. Handwriting and many italic and cursive styles use the single-storey ɑ, which is just a round bowl with a stem. You can see both in the grid above.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I copy a fancy A?
Tap or click any A on this page. It copies straight to your clipboard and the button turns green. Then paste it with a long press on your phone or Ctrl+V on a computer.
Why does my fancy A show up as a box?
The character is fine, but the device you're viewing it on doesn't have a font that can draw it. Bold, italic, script and bubble letters work almost everywhere; rarer styles may not.
Can I use a fancy A in my Instagram username?
No. Instagram usernames only accept plain letters, numbers, periods and underscores. You can use any of these A styles in your display name and bio instead.
What does the upside-down A (∀) mean?
In logic and math, ∀ means "for all" or "for every". People also use it for decoration because it looks like an A flipped over.
How can I turn a whole word into fancy letters?
Use the fancy text generator on our homepage. Type your word once and it shows every style at the same time.
